Change We Can Believe In

Oh the man just continues to scare me.  We have a constitutional lawyer who doesn’t seem to understand our Constitution and is in bed with big business.  Maybe that is all we get today with money the only really determinent factor in elections.  They spend so much time hanging out with the money guys that after a while, that is their reality.  We should have known when the financial crisis got solved with no-strings to the banks.  Now we find out that he is making major deals to allow multi-national corporations to skirt U.S. regulations on the environment, labor, ect.  Why would you want to be a U.S. company if you are given a possible out to costly, but necessary regulations, if you are not?

Then there is his attack on freedom of the press, from continuing the Bush claim that national security cannot be compromised by letting courts find out how we tortured or spied on American citizens, to the latest, trying to stamp out freedom of the press going after leaks of information showing we are violating our own constitution.  As Dan Froomkin points out in his Huffington Post blog:

“There is such a thing as a criminal leak — for instance, when an administration official intentionally outs a covert CIA operative in an attempt to discredit an administration critic.  But leaks that expose secrets that have momentous public policy implications need to be treated differently, because they are a critical part of our nation’s system of checks and balances. Knowledge is essential to the public’s ability to restrain executive (and legislative) power.

So we elected the guy to bring change to Washington and he is becoming more Bush than Bush.  Sadly that is our only choice and we now know who he is.  We can quit kidding ourselves that he is a slow learner or that he was caught unaware.  He is just one of the boys slowly disasembling our Democracy.   Turn  out will be critical to the next election and he is turning off the young voter with this nonsense.  If he is re-elected, our only hope iss a Progressive Congress that pushes him to do  the right thing.
